Dynamical Effects of the Radial Galactic Tide on an Oort Cloud of Comets for Stars with Different Masses and Varying Distances from the Galactic Center

چکیده

We show that the effects of radial galactic tides alone can change the dynamics of an Oort cloud of comets around a star in a highly sensitive manner. The Oort cloud dynamics depends primarily from the star’s position in the Galaxy and its mass. The dynamical variation is characterized by a dramatic change of comet perihelia, many of which are shifted towards the inner planetary system if the star’s position goes towards the galactic center or if its mass is set to be smaller. These preliminary result suggested us a possible future line of research which aims to a better dynamical generalization of comet orbits around extrasolar systems that might be tested through numerical simulations of an Oort cloud of comets around non solar type stars and in different galactic or extragalactic environments.

Injection of Oort Cloud Comets: The Fundamental Role of Stellar Perturbations

We present Monte Carlo simulations of the dynamical evolution of the Oort cloud over the age of the Solar System, using an initial sample of one million test comets without any cloning. Our model includes perturbations due to the Galactic tide (radial and vertical) and passing stars. We present the first detailed analysis of the injection mechanism into observable orbits by comparing the comple...

Perihelion Evolution of Observed New Comets Implies the Dominance of the Galactic Tide in Making Oort Cloud Comets Discernable

For an Oort cloud comet to be seen as a new comet, its perihelion must be moved from a point exterior to the loss cylinder boundary to a point interior to observable limits in a single orbit. The galactic tide can do this continuously, in a non-impulsive manner. Near-parabolic comets, with specific angular momentum H ∝ √q, will most easily be made observable. Therefore, to reduce the perihelion...

Cometary Evidence of a Massive Body in the Outer Oort Cloud

Approximately 25% of the 82 new class I Oort cloud comets have an anomalous distribution of orbital elements that can best be understood if there exists a bound perturber in the outer Oort cloud. Statistically significant correlated anomalies include aphelia directions, energies, perihelion distances, and signatures of the angular momentum change due to the Galaxy. The perturber, acting in conc...

The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations

Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...

Effects of the Planar Galactic Tides and Stellar Mass on Comet Cloud Dynamics

We report the first results of a research program to explore the sensitivity of the orbits of Oort cloud comets to changes in the strength of the Galactic tides in the plane of the disk and also to changes in the mass of the host star. We performed 2D simulations that confirm that the effects of the tides on comet orbits are sensitive to a star’s distance from the Galactic center. A comet cloud...
